Sir,

I am commanded by the Army C il to state that they have had under consideration the request containe i in Commander-in-Chief's telegram No. 475 dated Sri October, 1928, for the provision of military guards iar certain steamers on the Hong Kong, Amoy, Swatow & ad Singapore routes,

I am to state for the information of My Lords Cc missioners of the Admiralty that authority has now saen given to the General Officers Commanding North ari South China Commands to provide guards at their discretion up to a maximum of 3 officers and 60 other ranks from Shanghai and Hong Kong respectively, total 6 officers and 120 other ranks employed at any one time.

In addition the General Officer Commanding, Malaya, is already authorised to provide guards for ships plying between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Copies of this latter are being sent to the Foreign office and Colonial Office.
